RUTHVEN PARK - A Canadian historic site
Indiana, Ontario is a ghost town. Not the kind that comes to mind from the old Wild West - wooden structures lining a dusty dirt street and men in cowboy hats walking about on plank sidewalks. Our ghost towns are different.
At first glance, the town today known as Ruthven Park, looks like a southern plantation that fits better along the Mississippi River down in the wilds of Louisiana. An old stone mansion surrounded by stone out-buildings, weeping willows, and a driveway bordering with our most storied river known as the Grand.
Lost to history are the wooden buildings and shanty houses that lined the laneways through the mill town. What remains are the deep and historic energies, and a legacy from one of the most influential families of the Haldimand region - The Thompsons.
